In-House Litigation Counsel

About Us


Our client is a privately held investment group with a diversified portfolio of operating companies in technology-driven and innovative sectors. The organization is seeking to add a senior In-House Litigation Counsel to take ownership of its commercial disputes and litigation strategy.

This is a fully remote role, with the expectation of periodic in-person court appearances in Toronto. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior decision-makers while remaining actively involved in substantive litigation work.



Responsibilities

  • Assume primary responsibility for commercial litigation matters, from early assessment through resolution
  • Act as lead counsel on complex disputes, including appearances before the court
  • Develop litigation strategy and handle drafting of pleadings, motion materials, and submissions
  • Provide clear, practical legal advice to senior leadership, aligned with business objectives
  • Advise on litigation-related aspects of corporate governance, as applicable
  • Identify and manage litigation risk while implementing efficient, cost-conscious dispute processes

  • Fully remote position, with required court attendance in Toronto
  • Senior, hands-on litigation role (not a supervisory-only position)

Requirements


  • Around 5 to 15 years of experience in commercial litigation
  • Experience gained at a leading law firm or comparable in-house environment
  • Proven ability to run litigation files independently, including Commercial List matters
  • Trial experience and reported decisions strongly preferred
  • Strong judgment and comfort operating in high-pressure, fast-moving environments
  • Ability to translate legal risk into clear, business-oriented recommendations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ontario-based, with availability for Toronto court appearances
