Senior Software Engineer

Position Summary

The Senior Software Engineer will lead on big and small changes to Permanent's backend codebase. They will wield influence over Permanent's technical direction. As part of a small team, they will be a self-starter and excited to take the reins on fixing tricky bugs and adding new features to Permanent. Through this work, they will iterate on Permanent’s legacy codebase and move toward a more modular architecture. As a senior member of the team, the Senior Software Engineer will mentor more junior team members. Through regular engineering meetings and quarterly planning, this person will regularly provide leadership on architectural choices and priorities. At the same time, they should be prepared to spend some time each week working on user-reported bugs and turning around smaller platform enhancements. The ideal candidate will have experience managing server infrastructure and be able to handle some amount of DevOps work.


Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility as Senior Software Engineer will be to improve and expand the functionality of Permanent's API. Specifically, you will:

  • Lead server-side development on a small team;
  • Solve existing problems in the codebase and address partner and member requests using PHP and TypeScript;
  • Collaborate with the internal team and partners using git and GitHub;
  • Provide feedback on feasibility, design, and implementation of new features to other team members and partners;
  • Mentor other team members through regular code review and pair programming;
  • Document your work for internal and external stakeholders.

We'll be impressed if you also bring

  • Familiarity with AWS products including S3, EC2, RDS, and others;
  • Enthusiasm for updating legacy code;
